Hyde Name Origins.
The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .
Postcards.
Here are a couple of postcards showing Hyde in quieter times.
Mottram Old Road .
The Low is in the background to the left of the telegraph pole.
Looking down Dowson Road.
How quiet is the road !

Don't forget to feed the birds while the weather is cold.
the very first photograph of Cock & Hen brow I've ever seen looking towards Gee Cross.
